SEED TREATMENT PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS

INOCULANTS
An inoculant is a product that effectively introduces Rhizobium bacteria on seed at planting. This results in the formation of nodules that fix nitrogen for the plant.

High rhizobia counts, safeners for rhizobia protection & sticking agents are important when evaluating various products.

Inoculants can be dry or liquid. They can be used with seed treatments (contact manufacture for compatibility). Also, several companies manufacture combination inoculants & seed treatments.

DRY TREATMENTS

SEED TREATMENTS
These treatments protect against seed and seedling diseases:

Pre-germination seed decay

Seedling decay before emergence

Post emergence damping off

Seedling root rot

Mid season diseases

Pythium, Rhizoctonia and Fusarium all can severely lessen yields. By getting a healthy, uniform stand as quickly as possible, growers have the opportunity to determine their best yield potential.

When seed treatment AND inoculants are both used on seed, the grower can benefit from both seed protection and increased nitrogen fixing nodules.

Two dry products
Liquid seed treatment and a dry inoculant.

Two liquid products can result in the seed being too wet for planting equipment.

TREATMENT PRIOR TO PLANTING

Liquid or dry seed treatment can be applied for a period of time prior to planting.
Inoculants should be applied the day of planting unless special product application is approved by the manufacture.

Since inoculants are living organisms, they can die very rapidly on unprotected seed.
